What does the first family do during Christmas holidays? President Obama and his family continued their Christmas tradition in 2015 and vacationed in Hawaii from December 18th through January 2nd. Once again, they rented the Hale Reena Estate in the Kailua.
The first family had a fairly predictable Hawaii itinerary, featuring golf, shave ice, snorkeling trips to Hanauma Nature Preserve Bay and dinners out at Alan Wong’s. The park is home to Hawaii’s state fish, the Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a. The Obamas typically snorkel at the preserve.
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) told The New York Times that the annual trip is a sanctuary for the president, who spent most of his childhood in Hawaii. The Obama Family headed to MW Restaurant in Honolulu for their Christmas Eve dinner. It’s billed as a trendy spot known for using local ingredients and serving Hawaiian cuisine.
The president began the day once again working out for about 90 minutes at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii. With the exception of Obama’s morning solo trip to the gym, he spent most of Christmas Eve day with his family. First up was a hike up the Judd Trail with Flotus and the girls and friends.
