Antarctic Nail Ale Beer
Antarctic Nail Ale is the most expensive beer in the world. In 2010 John did a one-off brew named Antarctic Nail Ale which was brewed for and in concomitance with the Sea Shepherd Conversation Society. It’s a non-profit organization dedicated to the protecting the world’s oceans. Antarctic Nail Ale was a classic Australian style pale ale, based on our flagship Nail Ale, and brewed using a huge iceberg flown in directly from the Antarctic. It was melted in Tasmania before being brought to Perth to be used in the mixture. A lot of people were interested to help to make this beer possible. Kevin McGinty, a volunteer crew member of the Sea Shepherd at the time. It was Mr McGinty and his team who sourced the iceberg and transported it from the Antarctic to Tasmania and than, as pure water, to Perth.
Antarctic Nail Ale was released in only 30 individually numbered bottles and all money from the sale of these bottles went to the Sea Shepherd for beneficence. One bottle sold for $800 at an auction held in Fremantle . Bottle number 2 was sold for $1,850 to Dr Anthony Durrell which, along with making a significant contribution to the Sea Shepherd, made it the most expensive beer in the world.
